Fanoos — light up your deen

Fanoos ("the app", "we") is an Islamic companion app offering the Quran with translations, prayer times with azan reminders, tasbih, duas, Qibla direction and a community video feed ("Reels") of Islamic content. This policy explains what information the app handles and how.

Information you provide

• Account details — if you choose to sign in (required only for uploading, liking, commenting or following), we store your display name, email address and profile photo via Google Firebase Authentication. You may sign in with Google or with email and password.
• Content you create — videos you upload, captions, comments, replies, likes, follows and your public profile (name, photo, bio). Uploaded reels are reviewed by moderators before appearing publicly.

Information handled on your device only

• Location — used solely to point the Qibla compass and is never transmitted, stored or shared. You can decline the permission; the compass then uses your chosen prayer city.
• Preferences — your prayer city, alarm toggles, tasbih counts and reading position are stored locally on your device.

Where data is stored

• Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) stores accounts, profiles, comments, likes, follows and notifications. See Firebase Privacy.
• Cloudinary hosts uploaded video files and thumbnails. See Cloudinary Privacy.

What we do not do

• No advertising and no ad networks.
• No selling or sharing of personal data with third parties beyond the service providers above.
• No analytics or tracking SDKs.

Notifications

The app shows local notifications for prayer times (azan) and for social activity on your account (likes, comments, replies, followers). You can disable these in your device settings at any time.

Content moderation

Only Islamic content is permitted in Reels. Uploads are held for review and their details (video, caption, uploader profile) are visible to moderators for this purpose.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13. Community features require an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Deleting your data

You can delete your own reels and comments in the app. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the address below and we will remove it.
